There are a few methods that can be used to pick up a chinchilla and one of the most effective and common is to grab the chinchilla by the BASE of the tail then use you other had to slide under his belly and gently lift him out of his cage. After doing this for a few weeks [possibly months if you have maybe a rescue chinchilla that is nervous for example] you can pick him up this way and once you have him hold him close to you however not to tightly because when chinchillas are stressed thier hair will fall out but this shouldn’t be something to worry about. If it happens put him back in his cage with food and water and some toys .
