How do I pick the column list for my customer Select Kit, Cat No.72000-MS?
The ultra low metals content silica of the HPS and hQ C18 and C8 reverse materials are the best first choice for most reverse phase applications. Often C8 phases will tail or front less with basic compounds then a C18 phase will so if that is goal, select a C8 column. The hQ phases may give unique separations since it is not endcapped but is base deactivated. This is especially true for slightly polar compounds. HPS Phenyl offers similar selectivities to C18 and C8 in some cases but can be different in others. HPS Cyano and HPS Amino phases often act as aqueous normal phases. You should select the five best columns that will best help you solve your separation goals based on your sample and sample matrix.
