Ed Balducci first explained the Balducci Levitation in 1974 under the name “Impromptu Levitation.” The Balducci Levitation requires no props or gimmicks, and can be performed completely impromptu, setting it apart from most other marketed levitation effects. The Balducci Levitation relies primarily on the spectator’s belief in the illusion, coupled with a strong physical and psychological performance by the magician. Proper lighting and mastery of the correct viewing angle will also help you perfect the illusion. Test your angles to find the optimal viewing perspective for the spectators. Typically, if you are standing to the immediate left of the spectator, three steps forward and one step to the left will place your body at the correct viewing angle.
