Formatting and partitioning a hard drive for use with Windows ME is an important task. Until a drive is properly formatted and set to a specific partition it cannot be fully utilized by the operating system for data storage and operating ssytem features like indexing. Formatting a hard drive and partitioning it with a logical drive letter is, thankfully, and easy job within Windows ME that any computer user can accomplish. Click the “Start” button on the lower left hand side of the Windows desktop. Click the “My Computer” heading on the Start Menu that appears. Locate the drive you wish to format and partition. Right-click the drive and select the “Format…” heading from the context menu that appears. Select the appropriate file system to partition under the “File system” pull down menu.
