Use paints designed for use on fabric OR use acrylic paints mixed one to one with a fabric medium, then set the paint according to directions. You can also use fabric dyes to paint on fabric. Dyes will NOT give crisp edges, dyes will run into each other and give a watercolor effect. You can combine dyes for backgrounds and paint to highlight details. You can use acrylic masking paint to block off areas so the dyes don’t bleed into each other. Some masks can be removed, some can be part of the design. Paints come in every consistency from soft, which leaves fabric soft and drapable, to paint that make fabric thick and plastic-y adding different liquid mediums to fabric paints can tun many thicker paints into soft paints.
