How Do I Open A Microsoft Works Spreadsheet In Excel 2007?

If I go into excel 2007, select Open and then Other file types I can see the ‘.wks’ spreadsheet I want, but double clicking on it only opens up another blank spreadsheet not the file I was expecting to see! The version of Excel I have comes with Home & Student 2007 version and is running under Vista, if any of that makes a difference!
