How do I make the xf86config utility offer an i740 option?
You must use the tar command (execute man tar from the command prompt for a description of the tar command) to extract the xf86config file when you are logged into you computer as root (or su’d to root). You must also be in the / directory. If you use the tar the utility to extract the file from elsewhere on your system then it will not place the “Cards” file in a location that can be found at run time by the xf86config utility. The exact format for the tar command is listed in the README.i740 file. Make sure you use the latest xf86config utility which came from the driver ftp download directory. Consult the README.i740 file for more detailed information about how to use xf86config .
