The Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) has made considerable effort to share it´s images and data with the general public. The SDSS team went as far as providing many useful online tools for users on their website. It´s not everyday you get a chance to go to a website and grab images from a 2.5 meter telescope that would otherwise cost you many millions of dollars to put in your own backyard.
