To start a garden (if you are planting in the ground and not pots) you will need to have your soil tested first to make sure that you have the right balance of minerals and stuff. You can usually get a kit at a home improvement retail store. Of you can just wing it like I do. If the soil is dark and smells earthy and has a kind of clumpy texture to it and has some plant bits in it I plant. I used to use a tiller to break up the ground because plants need about as much room on the bottom as they do on the top. That’s why you “break ground”. It helps the plants not work so hard as they make roots. Now I just break the ground with a shovel. I don’t have a lot of money to rent a tiller anymore. 🙁 After that step I just follow the package instructions on the seeds or plant labels. Be sure to look up your planting zone so that you know when it is ok to plant your garden. Good luck to ya.
