A soundproof box or enclosure is among the best ways to lower the noise level created by a generator. While constructing a box to fit over the top of a generator is a simple do-it-yourself project, the materials required for soundproofing and the ventilation requirements of the generator make the project more complex. Build a box that will fit over the generator leaving an air space of 6 to 8 inches between the box and any components of the generator.
