How do I make freeze-dried rose petals?
Preparing the RosesFreeze dry fully grown roses that are completely open and whose petals can be easily removed. Allow the cut roses to stay out at least 12 hours before using them. Avoid using damaged or wilted petals.Using the Freeze DryerSet the freeze dryer’s temperature to minus 5 degrees F. Close the door and turn on the vacuum for approximately 10 seconds. Open the door when minus 5 degrees is reached and lay the collected rose petals on the freeze dryer’s tray. Close the door and turn on the vacuum again, allowing the petals to freeze dry there for two days.Additional CareIncrease the freeze dryer’s temperature to 0 degrees F, and keep the petals there for another two days. Raise the temperature again by 5 degrees F every two days until the dryer reaches 20 degrees F. Keep the petals there for an additional two days. After this time, it is safe to touch the rose petals.
