How do I make Arial my default font in Microsoft Word?

To change font by default in pre 2007 Word, up to Format, Font, change to Arial the size you want then press the default button. You will get a message saying something to the effect that this will affect normal.dot (template), say yes OK. Now every time you create a new document it will automatically be in the default font you selected. However, to change existing documents, you have to highlight all the text and click on the downward arrow to the side of the font box on the toolbar and select Arial The reason that it may have ‘messed up’ existing work is that even if you select the same size, i.e. 12 points perhaps, Arial is a slightly larger font, so I suggest you go down one point size.
