If you seek a private piano teacher, then start by calling the nearest college that has a music department; they should be able to give you are referral. If you do not live near a college, then call the closest large high school and ask to speak to the head of the music department – THEY should be able to give you a referral. Make sure that your teacher has at least a degree in music, and many years of teaching experience. Remember, YOU are employing THEM, and you should be able to find someone who is qualified. In the meanwhile, if you do not already know how to read music – both treble and bass clefs – then go to www.practicespot.com, and start in. Do NOT waste you time with videos, self-teaching, or anything other than a LIVE qualified teacher that you see every week. Good luck!
