How do I link files on my computer to a EndNote Reference?

You can link a file—such as a PDF or Word document— to an EndNote reference. Linking PDF files is a useful way of managing full-text journal articles. You can save all your articles in one folder and use EndNote to find them at a later date (eg create a ‘My Articles’ folder and use the first author’s name as the filename for full-text articles). EndNote library, choose File Attachments — Attach File from the References toolbar. On the file dialog, select the file to link to the selected reference. Note the check box “Copy this file to the default PDF folder and create a relative link”. Unless you are worried about storage capacity on your computer, it is easier to keep this ticked and create a ‘relative link’ (which then duplicates the PDF file in the .DATA folder). To open this document from within EndNote, click on the reference again and select File Attachments–Open File from the References tool-bar.
