How do I lay a concrete block?
Lay the FootingsPour the footings for the wall twice as deep as the thickness of the concrete block and twice the width. Use a trowel to spread a thick, 8×1-inch wide deep layer of mortar onto the footings. Work with up to four concrete blocks at a time. Make a small indentation with the trowel in the middle of the mortar layer.Lay the Concrete BlocksLay all corners of the wall or block project first to keep the rest of the concrete block in perfect alignment. Regularly check the levels of the edges and tops with a mason’s level as you work with the concrete blocks. Keep the mortar from drying out by continuously stirring it with the trowel. Keep building the concrete blocks from the corners until the wall or other project is completed.
