While we are aware of no specific threat of biological or chemical terrorism in Wisconsin or the United States, Wisconsins farmers and food establishments are committed to heightening security measures. The state, through the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and other local, federal, university and industry partners, has a comprehensive and aggressive surveillance and inspection program in place for food and agricultural products from the farm gate to the consumer plate. In fact, food and dairy inspectors conduct thorough, regular inspections of on farm operations, food processing facilities, grocery stores, restaurants and other food establishments across the state. We also have a corps of 11 foreign animal disease diagnosticians who are on 24-hour call.
