How do I know whether to use the SIL IPA93 fonts or the SIL IPA fonts?
The SIL IPA93 fonts are usually a better choice than the SIL IPA fonts, for several reasons: • They are more up-to-date (1993 vs 1990). • They include italic, bold, and bold-italic styles, in addition to regular face. • The IPA fonts include a character (the retroflex t) at access code 160, which is inaccessible in MS Word, and which will not print on an HP LaserJet printer. This character has been moved to a different location in the IPA93 fonts. • (Win) The only Keyman keyboard file available for the SIL IPA fonts is for Keyman 3.2, which does not run in Windows NT, 2000, or XP. In contrast, an updated keyboard file for using the SIL IPA93 fonts with Keyman 5 or 6 is available. • (Mac) The SIL IPA93 fonts include a keyboard file for the SILKey keyboard utility, while the SIL IPA fonts do not.
