How do I know whether someone offering music therapy services is board certified?

A board-certified music therapist (MT-BC) will be listed with the Certification Board for Music Therapists, Inc. (www.cbmt.org). In addition to completing a bachelor’s or master’s degree at an approved institution and passing a national board exam, board-certified music therapists are also required to complete 100 hours of continuing education every five years to maintain certified status. Complaints or sanctions regarding a MT-BC are registered with this certification board and/or the American Music Therapy Association (www.musictherapy.org).
