How do I know when HotTape has been heated enough for proper bond?

During heating, HotTape should soften and conform to the pavement surface. The material may bubble and may change color slightly; however, this is normal during application but caution to avoid scorching is advised. HotTape will exhibit a soft “chewing gum” appearance when properly heated. As soon as material has cooled, check the bond with a chisel test. Cut an area in the material with a chisel. If the material can be lifted without evidence of asphalt on the underside, insufficient heat has been applied. Simply apply more heat until proper bonding has occurred. Do not attempt to reheat a a later date.
