How do I know that CorrView ® will corrode at the same rate as my piping system?
A. CorrView ® is manufactured from ASTM 1018 mild carbon steel steel – which is physically and chemically similar to the A53, A106, A135/795 steel typically used in American process water, fire sprinkler, and HVAC related piping systems. It is the same material used for decades in manufacturing corrosion coupons. Due to the many subtle differences in piping, the corrosion rates of different piping will vary as well. ASTM A53 steel pipe produced in the U.S. wil have a different corrosion rate than ASTM A53 Korean or Canadian piping to a degree when exposed to a corrosive environment. Under controlled conditions and a well maintained and monitored water treatment program, such differences in wall loss are often minimized. Our extensive ultrasonic testing of piping systems has shown little significant variation in corrosion rate for piping systems where pipe from various countries and having different ASTM specifications was installed – as long as it was well maintained.
