How Do I Know Practical Piano Pedagogy Will Help Current and Future Teachers?
Major portions of Practical Piano Pedagogy were developed in my own studio and during the four-semester sequence of undergraduate and graduate piano pedagogy classes I teach at California State University, Fullerton. I’ve always had a waiting list for my home studio, which I attribute to many of the approaches and strategies I developed for successful teaching. These ideas have been incorporated into this text. Practical Piano Pedagogy has also been tested three times during the first two semesters of piano pedagogy at the university where I teach. University students come to piano pedagogy with little background in what it takes to be a successful independent piano teacher, which is what approximately 80 percent of piano majors will do at some point in their lives. Not only have I been privileged to see my wonderful students learn about piano teaching from ground zero and improve their understanding about what constitutes good teaching, but I have also listened to their valuable input
