How do I know my dog has finsished whelping?

My dog just had a litter of puppies 4 weeks ago. We didn’t get an x-ray done, so I really wasn’t sure how many puppies to expect. After she had 6, we thought there was another one. She still seemed to be breathing heavy and slightly pushing. We waited and waited and finally her breathing calmed and she was sleeping. After 2 hours, I was still thinking there was another puppy in there, so I decided to call the vet and told them what was going on. They told me if she isn’t actually pushing with no progress, then there is nothing to worry about. She never did have another puppy and it’s been 4 weeks. So, unless your dog is activly trying to push a puppy out with no progress, I wouldn’t worry about it. Try to feel her tummy and see if you can feel one in there. Also, this might sound gross, but if you have some gloves, you can stick your finger in her vagina and feel around to see if you feel a puppy stuck. Good luck!
