You can’t tell by looking. If he has a very visible sore then you would know, but he could easily have a tiny sore – or no sores at all – and still be infectious. The best thing to do is to talk to him. Ask him about his previous sexual history. Ask him about testing. Talk to him about things like STD’s and pregnancy and so forth. And if something sounds fishy, then you’ve learned something about the guy. Of course, you can also suggest that you go get tested together. That would be a way to know for sure. But you can’t tell just by looking. Sorry.
