I think you’re approaching the situation incorrectly. What you should be asking is how much of my budget do I want to put toward a house and leave enough for all the other expenses in life. I think you should make out a budget listing all your income and all your expenses, including savings and retirement investing. Then, you’ll have enough information upon which to base a decision.
