Reptiles lay eggs with a thin leathery shell that can be easily penetrated by almost anything. Even something as tiny as a fly maggot can penetrate the shell and damage the unborn reptile inside. Removing maggots is essential to the survival of the fetus. Remove your reptile from its enclosure and put your pet somewhere safe. If you do not have a second cage or aquarium for your reptile, put it in a box or a clean plastic storage bin. Put on a pair of latex gloves to prevent your scent from covering the eggs.
