how do I keep racoons away from the back of my house at night?
We had racoons that demolished our corn crop one year, and leaving the dog out was the best answer (only permanent results). tryed high speed lead poisoning 😉 but that took alot of my time and an element of suprise. removeing what they are after would be the next option, that’s usually food or anything that smells like food or garbage, ours went after the bird feeder once the corn was gone.(if your neighbors are close and the coons are making their rounds this might not help unless your neighbors do the same). a motion activated light will work for a few days (or cycles of the light) but they are smart and will soon figure out it poses no threat. Traping them works but again it’s time consuming and more will move in once you remove them, and if you live trap be carefull A COON IS STRONG and can rip your arm apart in seconds. Short answer: GET A DOG! hope this helps, one armed Al…..
Use a Have A Heart Trap baited with some type of fruit or corn. Then take the Raccoon at least a couple of miles away or eliminate the animal all together by drowning or shooting. I have actually caught raccoons in a Have A Heart Trap with no bait whatsoever they are very curious animals and sometimes will just go in the trap out of curiosity.
