How do I keep chemically straightened (or chemically rebonded) hair healthy?
When hair has been chemically rebonded it can cause damage to both the cortex (inner layer) and the cuticle (outer layer) of the hair, therefore you will need more than one treatment to ensure that your hair can stay healthy after rebonding. 1) Hair is 90% comprised of a material called keratin, so you will need to have your hair protein treated. These products go by different names, depending on the brand, such as PPT, cortex serum, restructurant etc, so please check with your stylist. What protein treatment can do is that they strenghthen the keratin in your hair and thus make the hair stronger and better able to retain its elasticity. 2) Chemical processes damage hair by inceasing its alkalinity as most of these chemicals contain ammonia. What you need to do is to find some good shampoo/ conditioner or hair mask that have low pH value to help balance or neutralize the alkalinity in your hair and bring your hair to as close to pH 7 as possible.
