How do I keep bees away from my hummingbird feeder?
That’s the first thing. Hummers are attracted to red, but wasps and bees find the yellow fast. So get feeders with no yellow on them. Second, in between feedings — about every three days at the most — thoroughly rinse your feeder in water (no soap) and about once a month rinse it in bleach water and then thoroughly in regular clear water to make sure no bleach is left. Third, change locations of your feeders frequently. The bees know directions, but the hummers will see them in a different spot long before the bees find them again. Just a note — do not use commercial hummingbird mixes. All you need is a 1:4 ratio of sugar to water. We have a hot water dispenser on our sink which gives us water at 190 degrees. I will use a cup of this and a cup of sugar together and stir to dissolve the sugar. Then I just add three more cups of tap water. I know a lot of directions say to use boiled water, but we have well water without a bunch of chemicals in it and it’s what the hummers are drinkin
