How do I interpret the SpeedTouch Home Product Code?

0

All Alcatel SpeedTouch Home Ethernet DSL modems have a 12 character product code located on the bottom of the modem. The product code can be used to determine the capabilities of the particular unit. This product code has the form: 3EC18XYZSHAA Each character position in the product code is used to indicate a different aspect of the modems configuration as follows: •The first 5 characters of the product code of every SpeedTouch Home modem are always 3EC18 •X Field: The 6th Character (represented by “X” in the example above) indicates the model type according to the following table: The “Line Pair” column is of most interest. It indicates if the model expects the DSL signal on the inner line pair (3/4) or the outer line pair (2/5) of the RJ-11 jack. Types “2” and “8” will work with BellSouth. However, depending on the configuration of your wall jack, a line swapper may be necessary to achieve sync when using Type “2”. •Y Field: The 7th Character (represented by “Y” in the example above)
