How do I insure motor vehicles, aircraft and watercraft?

Motor vehicles, aircraft or watercraft can be covered when being used as static props or moved on a prepared set or location but cover is not normally given if items are moved ‘under own power’. If cars are going to be driven on set for example, you will need to contact your broker or insurer to arrange cover. Because of the risk versus premium, one off covers are generally not favoured by insurers and can be relatively expensive. An option is to ask the owner to insure the item and include the production company’s name on their policy. Ensure that the policy will cover the item while being used in a film production. Ask the owner for a copy of the policy or certificate of currency from the insurer. Make sure your interests are covered, particularly with regard to damage to the item itself, third party property damage and personal injury to third parties.
