Navit works with the OpenStreet Map format. The default Navit application comes with a preprocessed map of Oregon, USA from CloudMade. To install additional maps, go to the CloudMade website to download additional maps or create your own OpenStreet map. To install new maps, put the map binary in /usr/share/navit/maps/ directory. Make sure you also create a corresponding map config file that loads the new map. You can use the oregon.navit.xml as a template.
