How do I install a TV wall mount that is not centered on the studs?
PreparationLocate the three studs closest to where you will install your TV; use a stud finder, if necessary. Mark each stud on your wall. Measure the distance from the first to the third stud. Purchase two flat pieces of steel bar long enough to span across these three studs. Mounting will attach to these bars. Hold your TV mounting bracket (not the bars) up to the wall where you will mount it. Draw an outline of the bracket and mark the locations of the bolt holes you will use. Hold the bars up to the wall and mark where bolts will attach the bars to the studs as well.Mounting Bars and BracketDrill the holes in your bars to attach the mounting bracket. Attach with bolts, placing head of bolt to back of bar and placing lock washers and nuts on threaded side, which will face into the room.
