For policymakers, the general steps are as follows: • Commit your system to 21st century outcomes for your students. • Build a consensus in your community around the 21st century skills your students must possess (include business, community groups, parents, policymakers, etc.). • Assess where you are today. • Focus on the critical building blocks (Standards, Assessment, Curriculum, Professional Development). • Align you vision, goals, building blocks and key initiatives (Learning Environments Strategy, High School Reform, After School Programs, Other programs (early childhood, etc.) in a way that’s transparent to all stakeholders.
