How do I identify turfgrass that I want to buy?
Well, for a house owner, the difference between Pearlgrass and Cowgrass is just that for the former; the turfgrass blade is smaller and the growth habit is closer to the ground, if in doubt; ask the nursery to show you samples of both. Another way is to go to a few nurseries, and if they all show you the same grass when you asked for it by name; jackpot. For the golf course, your Superintendent will be able to identify between the major generas of Zoysia, Bermuda, Serangoon or Cowgrass. But it would be a tall stretch for them to identify between cultivars and species. Either you compare with a known sample, or you get an unbiased third-party opinion. Either academics from a local University or like in some overseas countries, certificates are issued by an authority about the turfgrass breeds.
