How do i help my sick goldfish Charlie?
Test your water first and foremost. Goldfish are very messy fish and are marketed for tanks far too small for them! They need huge over-filtered tanks. And the most toxic properties in water are invisible! When a fish is sick, rule out water quality issues first! A Goldfish can go a week without food, trying to force feed it will do it no favours right now. The black tint on the fins is probably developing fin rot from being parked on the substrate. I would recommend improving water quality if that is an issue, feed all the fish some cooked de-shelled pea and then starve them for a few days. This acts a fishy laxative and should help any developing issues resulting from over feeding. Anti-bacterial medication may be needed if Charlie’s fins start to get more fin rot developing. FYI, Goldfish don’t always die, they should live over 15-20 years, it’s just most people keep them wrong so they die before they’ve even hit sexual maturity!
