How do i harvest&cook sunflower seeds?
Wait until the sunflower seeds are ripe. The sunflower will begin to dry out and lose petals while the seeds will be black and white striped when they are ready to harvest.Rub the seeds with your thumb to remove them from the head of the sunflower. Rinse the seeds under running water to remove dirt and place them in a bowl with 2 quarts of clean water and 1/4 to 1/2 cup salt. Let the seeds soak in the salt water mixture overnight.Drain the sunflower seeds and pat them dry with a towel. Spread the seeds onto a baking sheet and roast them in a 300-degree oven for approximately 30 to 40 minutes, stirring the seeds occasionally to prevent the bottoms from burning. Remove the seeds from the oven and stir 1 tsp. butter into each cup of hot sunflower seeds.
