How do I hang a wooden shelf?

Choosing a LocationChoose an empty wall location to hang the wooden shelf. Prior to drilling, ensure that there are no electrical wires or pipes located within the wall. Use a tape measure to determine accurate hanging height.LevelingHold the shelf against the wall. Use a level to accurately hang the shelf. Place the level on the shelf and then raise or lower each side until you get a level measurement. Mark the hanging location by placing a wall screw through the shelf’s mounting bracket holes and partially turning it into the wall (both left and right sides).SecuringDrill pilot holes into the marked locations with a small drill bit–around 1/8th or 1/16th inch. Match the mounting bracket holes up with the drilled pilot holes. Attach the right side of the shelf by driving a screw through the mounting bracket hole into the wall. Raise the left side of the shelf up to the second pilot hole.
