How do I go about becoming a paramedic or radiographer ??
Generally there is no formal qualification required to become a Paramedic. You will be expected to have a good educational background (5 gcse’s/Standard Grades) and will also require Catagory D1 and C1 on your driving licence (both are required for driving ambulances – most specifically C1). There is no medical background requirement, although a lot of applicants have one so will be favoured in interview. An anatomy and physiology evening course would be useful (contact your local college). Generally most Paramedics start as Ambulance Care Assistants. This job is predominantly part time and attacts a 16,000 pound salary – but may be pro rata to part time hours. Progression is then internally to Technician and competition can be fierce. Wage is then 16-19,000 but will attract a % for unsocial hours working – this can be up to 25%.
