How do I give extra (bonus) points in the Moodle gradebook?

If you wanted to give ALL students extra points in a category, perhaps to compensate for a poorly-defined question, you do it in the gradebook by clicking on the Set Weights tab and then enter a value in the Bonus Points column corresponding to the category to be augmented. If you want to give extra points, per student, then create an Assignment activity of type “offline”, perhaps calling it Bonus or something appropriate. Then assign bonus points in the usual manner for offline activities (see question 5.5, above). Next, in the gradebook (ie, click on Grades), add a category called Bonus (or whatever) and then make the Bonus assignment(s) members of this category. Finally, click on the Set Categories tab and then click the box “Extra credit” for each Bonus assignment.
