You can get bulk purchase discounts from a lot of the mainstream custom shirt websites. You can even create merchant accounts with these services and make profits on your original designs. You might want to first try the major players in the custom T-shirt world (cafepress, threadless).
There are a few different ways to print custom shirts. You could do the iron on method but it doesn’t last. They turn out great to begin with but I would recommend silk screening t-shirts. Its so fun too. I don’t know what the machines are actually called but I have given you some links that can help you out. I myself am going to try and build my own press. Sounds fun. So before you go and spend hundreds of dollars for an expensive press and all the materials you could try the build your own method first. There are stores that specialize in printing whatever you want but I am not totally sure of the cost. But since you are trying to make money I would print them yourself.
