How do I get rid of tent worms?
What most people call tent worms and army worms are different. You can spray a tent with WD 40 then set fire to it. This will destroy the worms in the tent. If you are only worried about a few ornamental trees this method will work. Be careful not to start a fire so do this right after a rain or when the leaves are still moist. Larger areas can be protected with sprays or dusts. yellow and black billed cuckoos are caterpillar specialists and will wipe out many when they arrive. This is a case of using common sense. If the area where you are at is too dry or too easily set on fire then you can not use the burning method. Nor can you use it on cedars, pine etc. However it works well here where we live. Again common sense must be exercised! Cutting the branch may work in some instances. If you leave it lay though the caterpillars will simply crawl back up the tree.
