How do I get rid of mushrooms growing on our lawn?
Apparently, there’s no good way of getting rid of the mushrooms. This surprises me a bit, but I checked several sites and no one had a good solution. Almost all agree that very little can be done about them. I’ve had mushrooms crop up in the past but I never worried much about them. But I definitely understand your concern. I’m going to go ahead and post here the most comprehensive information I found, but like I said, you’re not going to like it. I think vigilance may be your only real option: The part of a mushroom that we see aboveground is its “fruit” and may contain thousands of tiny seeds called spores. Each spore grows a threadlike root when it falls to the ground, and the roots from many spores weave a huge underground web. Whenever two roots from different spores meet, they can join to make a new mushroom. To get rid of your mushrooms, you’d have to remove all the dirt that contains either roots or spores. (By the way, you may be spreading both when you shovel them ‘shrooms.’)
