How Do I Get Rid Of Moss Growing In My Yard?

Moss only takes over when grass won’t grow properly – usually in areas of too much shade (grass is a sun lover), too much moisture, and poor drainage. So before you remove that moss, you need to stop and consider how you’re going to get grass to grow in its place. Some of your options may include trimming back shading tree branches to let more sunlight into your yard. On top of that, you may need to start regularly aerating your lawn to get better drainage in areas of compacted soil. Unfortunately though, barring those solutions fixing everything for you, you probably won’t be able to get grass to ever grow in those mossy areas. So a lot of people choose to either keep the moss (hey, it’s green, easy to care for, and soft on toes!), or replace it with a nice shade-loving ground cover. Now, as for actually removing the moss? The best recommended method is to dig it up (if you really, really want to). Very few legal chemicals will eliminate moss, and those that do are very harsh and risk

Moss thrives and grows on moist shady areas. After digging up all the moss you would have to trim any shrubs or trees that is blocking out the sun from that area. If you can not get some sun into the area you are just wasting your time. Only the sunlight will keep the area dry and keep the moss from reproducing and growing like crazy. With sunlight and air circulation you will be able to plant some grass, shrubs or a pretty type of ground cover. If choosing a low growing ground cover plant I would keep away from clover since that has a way of taking over the yard. good luck!
