How do i get rid of mildew/ mould on my walls?
If it’s behind a wardrobe it’s almost certainly dampness coming from the wall. If it’s downstairs it is probably rising damp. This is damp soaking UP the wall because the damp-proof course is not working. In an upstairs room it can’t be rising damp because damp will only rise for about a meter. Upstairs it is probably penetrating damp coming from a leaky roof, a leaky gutter letting water run down the wall, a leaky window frame or, if it is near to a disused chimney breast, rain coming down the chimney or dampness inside the chimney due to a poorly ventilated chimney. If the house is poorly ventilated, it could be condensation. Find and cure the cause first otherwise the mould will come back. Clean the mould and mildew off all surfaces with a mould/mildew removal spray from any decent supermarket. You will probably need to redecorate. You must rectify the cause of the dampness as soon as possible because dampness can result in dry-rot, which can be very difficult and expensive to cure.
