How do i get rid of cramps when running?
Alrite, Cramps can be from dehydration, to much to soon, and incorrect breathing. Many things can trigger a cramp but focus on those 3. Whenever you get a cramp, all you have to do is, continue running, but cup your arms around your nose and mouth, and breathe in hot air. Exhale and inhale the air for about 6-7 times and it should leave in a minute or less. But instead of getting cramps, focus on avoiding them. Hydrate yourself, eat properly and maintain correct running form. Make sure you dont eat anything before you run and breath normally. Dont worry the more you run the less it will happen.
There are two different types of cramps. One comes from having food in your stomach (too much food). It does not feel good. The other cramp (most common) comes from a buildup of lactic acid. This occurs when you run to fast or at a pace that is above your lactate threshold. Lactic acid begins to accumulate in your blood and your liver works really hard to try to remove it. This causes a sharp type of a cramp, sometimes like a knife in your side. The solution? Run slower. Yes, you can try breathing tricks, holding your arms up, extending your belly… etc. but slowing down is the one thing that WILL work. Although if you’ve been running to hard, you may have to walk for a bit to let your liver catch up and remove come of the lactic acid, then you can run again, but SLOWER. The goal of distance runners is to increase their lactate threshold, because this is as fast as they can run and hold the pace for long distances.
