You have to dig it out and get rid of any traces of it’s roots or it will return. Bamboo is very invasive and if you leave any trace of it you will have the same problem again. You first need to cut down all bamboo branches to soil level. You then mark a line about 3′ beyond the perimiter of plant growth. You then have to dig out the whole area and get rid of the dirt. Do not chop up the root system because little tiny root fragments will be left behind and germinate. You can then re-plant the area and keep an eye out for new shoots which you need to promptly kill with chemicals before they get too big. The alternative would be to contact a pro licensed landscaper who will have industrial strength chemicals not available to the general public. Good luck.
