How do I get PD audio output to work (i.e. make sound out of my speakers)?

If you can’t get the sound to work, try this one thing: Go to “Help->Browser”, then click “audio examples”, then choose “B01.wavetables.pd” from the list. You could choose almost any one, but that one’s pretty easy to use. If you can get the wavetables example to make a sound, then it will ‘turn on sound’ for everything, and you’ll be able to get the “birds use stars” piece to make sound (remember master volume). I don’t know why the ‘birds use stars’ doesn’t automatically kickstart the sound. To make the wavetables example make noise, you need to turn up the volume, which is the number box at the bottom (click and drag). Then play with the number at the top which will change the tone of the sound you hear. Usually you need to turn the volume up to about 80 or 90 dB to hear it.
