How do i get my cat and my new kitten to get along?
Kittens just want to play with whoever or whatever’s around. Cats usually find kittens to be annoying. What if your cat went out and brought home another human, someone younger with lots of energy who just kept bugging you? Look at it from that angle. It will take awhile for them to work it out. Be glad your cat is just hissing. It could escalate to swatting and biting. Some of that type of behavior is necessary for the cat to teach the kitten who’s in charge. Make sure to give your cat some extra attention and don’t yell at him or punish him for whatever he does to the kitten. If he does actually try to hurt the kitten, use a spray bottle with water. Try to find your cat some places he can get to where the kitten can’t reach. Your cat needs to be able to feel safe. The safer and more confident he feels, the easier it will be for him to eventually accept the kitten. The kitten will be fine; it’s your first cat who needs reassurance and extra TLC.
