How do I get into merchandising?

I like merchandising also. I used to own, and operate a health food store, and found that merchandising soon became one of my most favorite things to do. There are schools that teach this, where you can get a degree in this field. You can look over many of them by doing a Google search on this topic. Also, you can ask local retailers if they would like you do their windows for them. Look for ones that really need a lot of help. Prior to approaching them, sketch out a few ideas of how their window will look when you are finished with it. Pictures are worth a thousand words, especially in this case. If some take you up on your offer, make sure you take lots of before, and after pictures. This will be the start of an all important portfolio for you. Don’t be afraid to volunteer your time, and talent, in the beginning. The experience, and portfolio will be well worth it! Also, a visit to the local library can provide other ideas to help get you started. Hope this helped you.
