The reason Amazon only offers paperback copies of some books that were issued in hardcover is that the hardcover edition is out of print. You will have to get a used copy if you want a hardback. There are several good book searching services on the net, in which many out-of-print book dealers list books. These include: abebooks.com, alibris.com, biblio.com, and many more. Amazon itself offers many used books through dealers which contract with Amazon. Most of the main ones are indexed through two mega-search engines, addall.com and bookfinder.com. Don’t be put off by the term “used.” Many “used” books are in as-new condition. There is not room here to deal with all of these search engines individually, but I’ll try a random title to give you an idea. Try McCammon’s book, ‘Stinger.’ It is out of print in hardcover and available used in hardcover from Amazon (through other dealers) for $90.
